Recommended Fluoride Water Levels

Four years ago the US Department of Health and Human Services proposed a level of fluoride in community water systems of 0.7 parts per million. Recently the Department after further study finalized that level as optimum for preventing tooth decay. Over 75 percent of Americans have fluoridated water.

St. Louis adjusted the fluoride levels in the water system when the recommendation first came out. The proposed levels prevent tooth decay but do not cause discoloration of children’s teeth.
